What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a permanent restorative solution for patients seeking a beautiful natural looking smile. Implants help patients that have damaged, broken, or missing teeth, and act similar to an artificial tooth that is placed in the jawbone. Implants are durable, and are built to last upwards of 25 years if cared for properly.
What to expect during the implant process:
Typically dental implants have two steps and take multiple appointments in our office. The first step is to place the implant in the jawbone. Once this is done a healing process is required to allow time for the implant to fuse to the jawbone. This process is called osseointegration. Bone grafts can be done if the patient does not have sufficient bone in the jaw to provide the necessary support for the implant.
Once the healing process is complete, the patient returns to our office to complete the implant process. An abutment or connector is placed on top of the implant. This allows the crown to be affixed securely on top. Crowns are custom made to match the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth. If necessary, temporary crowns are used until your permanent crown is ready.
Benefits of dental implants:
- Implants are permanent and do not slip or click like other restorative options
- Provide long term value financially
- Implants preserve the natural bone in the mouth, and this helps to stimulate new bone growth.
- Implants are built to last upwards of 25 years or a lifetime if cared for properly.
