What are full mouth dentures?

Dentures help to replace missing teeth and are removable. Today’s dentures are natural looking and comfortable to wear in your mouth. Dentures are custom made to fit a patient’s mouth, and are typically used when all the teeth are missing. Conventional dentures are ready for placement between 8 to 12 weeks after teeth have been removed. The dentures are fit into an acrylic base that looks similar to your natural gums. The plate covers the roof of your mouth, and the lower denture on the bottom rests on your gum or bone tissue.

There is an option for immediate dentures, and these are made in advance and placed directly after the teeth are removed. This is a popular option for patients that do not want to be without teeth during the healing period.

What are partial dentures?

Partial dentures are removable and use a plastic base that is connected to the replacement teeth. This can be connected to a metal that helps to hold the denture in place. This type of denture is used when the patient has one or more teeth remaining in either the upper or lower jaw. Partial dentures help to fill the space for missing teeth, and also help prevent other teeth around the denture from moving out of position.
