What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are tooth colored shells that are bonded to teeth. Veneers match the color of your natural teeth giving patients a beautiful white smile. Veneers are used for chipped, stained, or uneven teeth, and are made out of a durable porcelain material. Typically veneers can last anywhere between 10-15 years, and this depends on the wear and tear to veneers over time.

Who can benefit from porcelain veneers?

Patients that have discoloration from dental procedures such as root canals, or stains from food or drugs can benefit from veneers. Also, patients that have worn, chipped, broken, or uneven teeth are good candidates for veneers.  Veneers can be used to create an even smile, can close gaps in our teeth, and look very natural. Our gum tissue tolerates porcelain material well and veneers are highly stain resistant.

How are porcelain veneers applied?

The process for porcelain veneers takes more than one appointment. We require a preliminary consultation visit where we discuss your goals and take x-rays to develop a customized treatment plan.

When you return we will remove a portion of your tooth enamel to prepare the veneers. Molds will be taken of your teeth, and they will be sent out to a lab to prepare the veneers. Once the veneers are ready we check them for color and fit making sure they match perfectly.

We then clean your teeth thoroughly, and prepare the tooth’s surface to ensure the veneer adheres properly. Using a special cement the veneer is placed on the teeth. An ultraviolet light is used to help the veneer harden and set quickly. Overall, the process for veneers takes approximately a few weeks. We do require patients to return a few weeks after their veneers have been placed to ensure everything is still looking and feeling great. Veneers are a great choice giving patients that beautiful even smile without an extensive procedure.
